The Punisher is one of the first "anti-heroes", or a hero that doesn't always act as nice as we would like. The Punisher started the ball rolling for the darker side of comics, and when comics like The Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns made the genre even more popular, the Punisher fit right in. Thanks to the Punisher, comics have been able to explore their darker side. Whether that is good or not is up to you.

ORIGIN

Frank Castle was a family man, a highly decorated marine, and on his way to having a wonderful life. But all of that changed while he was on leave and picnicking with his family in Central Park. They accidentally stumbled onto a mob killing and the mobsters opened fire, killing Frank's wife, his children, and ultimately, his spirit. Frank barely escaped, but one thing was sure. The events that transpired in that park changed his life forever. Abandoning his career in the military, Frank took his skills of warfare and turned them onto the ones that killed his family. But he didn't stop there. Frank Castle's old life was dead. Now, as the Punisher, he hands out the same death sentences to those whom he deems as part of the criminal world
