The publishers didn't want to do a character named Spider-Man at first, they thought it was too scary.

ORIGIN

Peter Parker was an orphaned teenage boy who was bit by a radioactive spider. The bite seemed to imbue Peter with a spider's natural abilities. Peter first tried to make a profit off of his powers, but when his Uncle Ben was killed by a thief that he could have stopped, he vowed to use his powers for good under the guise of Spider-Man.
